Understanding Metering

Understanding Metering

Sunday 14 April
East of the government and business district - 11am - 2 Hours
Nicolas Chevallier
Metering is an incredibly important aspect of photography to grasp. You might have heard about the exposure triangle but I believe we should be talking about an exposure square with metering being the forth side as it is equally as important to getting the correct exposure as your aperture, ISO and shutter speed.
We will explore how and when to use each of the metering options and how to use it to get some creative lighting in your shots.

I really enjoyed this class. The instructor was very knowledgeable and checked in on each participant to see that they had the basic knowledge to understand the upcoming lesson and challenges. Instructions and shooting challenges were helpful and the feedback was supportive and instructive. Small group size also allowed for enough interaction from instructor. Great class!

Mia has always been my go to model to promote any new setup I create! When I finished creating my Valentine's Day setup I called her in the room and she knew exactly where to go and what to do right away! She did such a fantastic job posing for me and I could not be any more proud of my sweet girl! Picture was taken with a Canon Rebel T7I.

On Galata Bridge people love to fish, so does this woman in this photograph. After hundred years of secular life in Turkey nowadays women are under more stress to cover their hair. But this one doesn?t look like that she will easily give away her rights. December 2023.

Although I love sunsets, I wasn't planning to shoot one that day! I was actually driving home from a weekend of camping with my wife, when she commented on the sunset. I turned my head to look at it and the leading lines and colours just struck me. I had to get that shot! After managing a three point turn with our camper in tow (not an easy feat!), I stopped on the side of the road, grabbed my camera, and shot like mad until the sun sank below the horizon! This is my favour?ite of the lot, and

I took this at my parents' home in mid-September. It was an especially warm day, and the end of afternoon light was too good to pass up. I also had a brand new camera to put through its paces, so it was a match made in heaven. The patch of yellow daisies where this was taken was mostly in the shadows, but the sun would hit it just right now and again, and I loved how the flowers just lit up the darkness. I used a Canon R8 with the RF 24-105 mm lens @ 50 mm, f/11, 1/160 sec., and ISO 500, and I d

First off, I have to say that I am not a "Birder". But I love challenging my photographic skills and abilities. The American Kestrel is not a big bird, and it is fast. So even when you know its takeoff is imminent, it is still hard to get a nice clear photo of the bird. This particular image was shot with a Canon R6 camera, with the RF100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM lens at 1/5000 sec, f/7.1 and ISO 4000. I used the animal eye-tracking feature of this mirrorless full frame camera, and was very plea

I had shot the sunrise at Horseshoe Bend the same morning and was hoping for a blazing sunset at this location after talking to the other photographers present at sunrise. Even with some clouds, we were not so fortunate and when the sunlight was casting on the water I switched to black and white mentality and was able to capture this photo. You can just see the setting sun in the upper right corner for the photo.

I was on a leisurely family walk going towards Nene Valley Railway in Wansford when serendipity struck, and I found myself in the perfect spot to capture a captivating moment. The sight of a steam train preparing to depart from the station sparked a rush of excitement and nostalgia. The timeless allure of steam trains and the bustling atmosphere of the railway added a touch of history and charm to my photography experience.
